welcome to Polish Chooks,
a site dedicated to the rare Polish Chicken breed.
|
I first saw the Polish (also known in some countries as the Poland) chicken in 2003 and
was instantly captivated by this stunning bird. Since then, over the past couple of
years I have been fortunate enough to purchase some of the
varieties and
different colours in this most spectacular of breeds.

The past couple of years has certainly been a very big learning curve for me,
as I was very new to the chicken world. I has fortunate enough to be introduced to
other long time breeders of the Polish through friends, who have helped me immensely
in developing more knowledge about everything from caring for chickens, to how to
select good birds. With this in mind, I decided to set up this web site with the
hope of assisting & providing information & support to other new breeders of the Polish.
My site contains information on the Polish, including
the various
colours,
breeders lists,
general &
seasonal care,
lifecycle,
problems &
standards.
There is also many pictures of these
wonderful chooks for you to view, which will be hopefully updated regularly.
In case you are wondering, the word chooks is Australian slang for chicken.

I do hope you enjoy this site & find the information useful. Who knows, maybe you will
get a few Polish as pets (or possibly consider becoming a breeder), they are just wonderful, but
remember they do need a little bit more tender loving care than the average chook and
should not be housed with any aggressive breeds of chickens.

Please note: not all the chickens pictured or articles throughout this site are mine.
I appreciate & thank all the various breeders and lovers of Polish
for helping me with the information and sharing their passion for the Polish with me.
As I continue to breed & develop more knowledge on this most striking of breeds, I will
endeavour to keep adding more information into the site,
so please come back every now and again to visit.
A TRIBUTE TO THE WHITE CRESTED BLACK POLISH BANTAM
by Lynn G Brenneman
"Let us look upon the White Crested Black Polish. They are the birds upon the lawn.
They are the big white plumed crests borne on each cock and hen, and the rest
of their plumage is a greenish black of lustrous splendor. Surely so marvelous a fowl
can never pass into nothingness; surely it will survive to make glad the hearts
of fanciers as long as fowls remain one of our domesticated species.
It is not contented that the utility of the Polish is as good as that of production-bred fowls;
but eggs are not the only product of chickens. There is another product. It is less tangible
but not less necessary to our existence. It is a product that love and dreams and poetry
are made of. It is such a product that the Black Polish with the White Chrysanthemum - like
crest yields to those who breed it."
"Crested Bantams" - 1977.
